This exhibition is about connection
with nature, with flowers, with myself.
connectedness to a moment in time,
to the space in between thoughts,
when the senses open
and one can see, hear, feel,
be at one with the observed.
In 2013, I asked my students to commit to a minute of awareness a day. I asked them to stop for a moment every day to look, listen, and smell.
As a role model, I committed to photographing one flower, every day, for a year.
This evolved from an exercise into a great love as I slowly opened myself to the pure beauty of a flower, the unmediated vitality of nature, and the beauty of the breath of life.
Now, seven years and thousands of photos later, these many moments of beauty and connection to nature, each day, have given me exhilaration and a sense of gratitude.
And now it is my pleasure to share them with you.
Lily Cornford
Flower Colour Therapy
Lily Cornford (1906-2003) was an English healer who developed a method based on colour visualisation perceived through flowers. Accordingly, she developed a colour language describing each flower by its healing properties, its hue, tone, and wavelength.
I studied with Lily at the Maitreya School of Learning, and later helped manage the children's clinic she established.
In practicing Lily's flower therapy, one would concentrate on a single flower, immersing oneself in the perception of its colour. While thinking, imagining, and experiencing the flower through the senses, the healer would then place their hands on specific areas of the patient’s body, again, concentrating on the colour of that specific flower..
Lily employed a specific palette, wherein each colour was arranged according to its wavelength. By respecting the flower’s intrinsic properties, and the power of human perception, her therapy activated natural forces in the service of healing.
Of all the therapeutic techniques I have learned, Lily Cornford's Flower Colour Therapy is by far the most magical, profound, and holistic.
